Your Liver is one of the major detoxification organs in your body and is the second largest organ in the body, second only to the skin. The liver supports every organ in the body, and is responsible for over 100 functions, including detoxification, as it filters the blood and removes harmful bacteria and chemicals and eliminates excess hormones. When the Liver detoxification pathways get overloaded and waste products build up in the system, the primary symptoms to show up first are congested sinuses and/or bowel problems. The Liver is responsible for protein synthesis, biochemical production of bile for digestion, (an alkaline compound,) which aids in the function of digestion within the small intestine. The liver is a master chemist and metabolizes proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. It stores glucose in the form of glycogen, Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Vitamin B-12, Iron and Copper. The bile produced by the liver is collected in the bile ducts and stored in the cystic duct in the gallbladder. Because of these important functions it is important to keep the liver as clean as possible with optimum function.
